Trees come down. Trees go on trucks. Trucks go to sawmills.
Potential transportation problems:
But what if plant uptime and wait time data didn’t exist? How would the drivers get accurate, real-time suggestions for navigation?
Worthwhile created a novel solution to both crafting and visualizing new data — collecting it from scratch — by building (in house) GPS trackers that stay with each truck. In South Carolina, around 800 forestry and logging trucks are active each day. Without access to the sawmills themselves, the local trucking industry banded together to crowdsource data, help each other, and reduce carbon emissions (fewer idling trucks, less wasted miles/trips).
